What is a Segway? How does it work?
The Segway Personal Transporter is a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Segways are easy to use and operate. The device monitors your balance 100 times per second and automatically responds to your body’s movements. To move forward, the rider simply leans forward. To stop or move backward, the rider leans back slightly.
How do I learn to ride a Segway PT?
All riders are required to participate in a 15-25 minute training and orientation in a large, controlled parking lot at the start of every tour to ensure the safest and most enjoyable ride for everyone. Tour guide will demonstrate and go over safe Segway operation as well as emergency stops before spending time working with each rider individually on basic operations. Guests will not leave the designated space and the tour will not begin until everyone is comfortable and confident on the Segway. All riders are required to wear a helmet, which is supplied free of charge.
What is the best day to take a tour?
While all days are great, Mondays – Thursdays are generally quieter tour times. The downtown area is quieter during these times because there are no festivals or events to navigate.
How fast do Segways go?
The Segway is designed to travel up to 12 mph. We will begin the training and tour at a much slower speed until all riders are confident and comfortable.
Do I need a reservation?
Advanced reservations are highly recommended to ensure you get the date and time that best suits your plans. For last-minute tour bookings, please call 855-SEG-TOUR and we will do our best to get you on a tour!
What time do I need to arrive for my tour?
All riders should plan on arriving at the tour start location no less than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. The sooner everyone arrives and gets adequately trained, the sooner the fun begins!
How many people are in each tour?
To ensure a personal ride for all of our guests, we limit the tours listed on this site to 16 riders – though most of our tours have far fewer participants. Our average tour consists of 8-10 guests. For larger group tours, please call 855-SEG-TOUR.
How long does the Segway Tour last? Will we stop for pictures?
Depending on the tour you choose, it will last from 90 minutes to 2 hours. Each of the Scottsdale Segway Tours begins with 15-25 minutes of orientation and training. There are plenty of great photo opportunities, and you are welcome to bring your own camera for use while we are not moving.
Where does the tour start?
Upon completing your tour reservation, you will receive a confirmation email notifying you of pertinent tour information, including your meeting and starting location.
How will I be able to hear the tour guide?
Scottsdale Segway Tours uses VOX Networks System headsets. We will provide each rider with a headset unit, so that you will be able to hear your tour guide’s commentary and instructions. For more information on VOX Networks click here.
Are the tours ever cancelled due to weather?
Given Scottsdale’s over 330 days of sunshine, Scottsdale Segway Tours rarely cancels tours due to inclement weather. The Segway PT is water-resistant and designed to operate in light rain. In the event of light rain, will provide complimentary ponchos to keep you dry. However, in the rare case of a tour cancellation due to severe weather, we will offer space on an alternate tour date or time. If space on an alternate date or time is not available, we will offer you a refund or credit.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably in light, breathable material. Avoid extremely loose or baggy clothing. You will be moving at 12 mph so be sure to check the weather and wear layers when necessary. Closed-toe, flat shoes or sneakers are required. NO flip-flops, sandals, open-toe shoes, heels, wedges or platforms. Sneakers are best. Skechers shape-ups and similar type toning shoes are not allowed. For safety reasons, you will not be allowed to ride if you do not have appropriate footwear.
